Founder & Director
James moved to the UK from South Africa several years ago to study business and finance, where he passed with a honours degree.
From a young age, James has been collecting rare whiskey with his father and grandfather. With their private collection consisting of around 1,000 bottles and over 20 casks.
“We have predominantly focused on scotch whiskey, although not exclusively, mainly due to my Scottish heritage. My family tree can be followed back to one of the original highlands clans in Scotland, named the MacDonald clan. Scotch whiskey runs in my blood.”
After moving to London and combing his passion for whisky and his degree in finance, James found himself involved in the whisky market for multiple years.
“I found that there was a opportunity for me to set up something truly unique and special in the whisky industry, finally giving collectors and whisky enthusiasts a transparent point of entry into the lucrative world of cask whisky ownership. I started Cask Hog with the goal of becoming the HUB for everything whisky.”

How We Work

Distilleries
Initially, new make spirit simply represents a cost to distillers.
The distillate needs to mature for three years before it can earn its legal designation of ‘whiskey,’ then for at least another two years to develop more complex flavours.
The maturation process is resource intensive, and the cask won’t produce any income for the distiller until it’s bottled and sold.
To cover their operating costs during this time, distillers typically look to two strategies: borrowing from banks and selling casks to wholesalers.
That’s where the team at Cask Hog come in.

As wholesalers, Cask Hog are uniquely placed to offer private clients premium casks once accessible only to industry insiders.
We’ve built relationships with a select group of premium distillers, and this has allowed us to negotiate the exclusive rates we are then able to offer our clients.
When you purchase cask whisky with us, we take care of insurance, secure storage in government bonded warehouses, and much more.
